æ´»Do教育- assures you “Do” an “A”
Sep 16th
I was riding on a bus a week ago traveling from Kowloon to Causeway Bay and I saw this commercial on the TV display.
The commercial was artistically done I am sure a lot of budget and resources got poured in for this TVC. I am just wondering if there is any class in the university curriculum for students to take and they can guarantee an A for their classes.
What do you think about this commercial?
How do you feel about the previous education style/system that got you to university education now?
How can you get As for your classes in university? Is it really necessary to get an A?
Appreciate your thoughts and sharing.
We are Ready! Are you ready…to FAX?
Aug 22nd
It is always fun to catch up with my friends during the summer and listen to their interesting stories about the student interns they hired. Here’s one that is too hilarious not to share it with you.
“One day the supervisor of the company XYZ, Mr. Chan, wanted to fax a two-page document to his client. So Mr. Chan asked his student intern, John, to fax it for him.
John went over to the fax machine, placed the document onto the tray and started to fax it. The 4-in-1 machine started to “eat†the document and a loud high pitch tone followed. The document then appeared on the other side of the machine on another tray. John was puzzled. He had no clue whether the document went through to the customer or not. So he asked Mr. Chan, “Why is the document still here? How am I supposed to know that the client got it?”
Mr. Chan looked at the document, then at John and said to him, “Why don’t you go to the client’s office and make sure they got the document?â€
Needless to say, everyone around who heard this comment giggled. The next day, John called in sick and he resigned from the job the day after.
Indeed, John’s case is a wee bit extreme and you may think that he is such a wimp not able to take criticism from others.
However, what is worrying about this story is that it is true.
While we sang “We are ready” during the Olympics, do you think you are truly ready for the real-world.
Here are some reflections for us all.
- To what degree are you similar to John?Â
- How do you treat criticism and comments about your performance? Do you see them as judgement about you or do you see them as opportunities to learn and improve?
- Are you driven enough to continue going after what you want even though many challenges stand in-between you and your goals?
Are you Legend?

“My name is Robert Neville. I am a survivor living in New York City. If there is anybody out there…anybody. Please. You are not alone.”
This is one of the lines from a recent Hollywood movie I watched, “I am Legend”, stared by Will Smith playing the role of Robert Neville. After holding my breath for almost 90 minutes and almost ripping the armrest off my seat, I came out of the cinema with my friend with such intensity and tried to calm my agitated nerves.
Reflecting back to the movie, Robert Neville led a much purpose driven and disciplined life, both mentally and physically. He had a goal from the very beginning, which was to develop a vaccine to cure the disease and save mankind from extinction, and this story made him a legend.
The New Year has always been a time for people to take stock of the previous year, make changes and plan for higher levels of achievement. But it will be impossible to accomplish and succeed in anything if there is no target to aim for. I wonder if you have set up your 2008 goals yet? They can be related to school, career, health, community service, practical skills or anything you want to accomplish.
It also requires great discipline to achieve goals, and discipline can and must always start with daily living. It’s been said that discipline is getting yourself to take action that is necessary, when it is necessary, whether you feel like doing it or not. Wow! This definition seems daunting but isn’t it true to life? I mean, how can a person succeed in life and accomplish goals if he cannot even take charge of his own thoughts, body and life style? I think many people think that discipline means no freedom. I have realized it otherwise: With discipline, you become free to do what you really must do and to achieve what you deserve. Are you committed to living a disciplined life?
So, what is your legacy?
